Venmo is a popular P2P digital payment platform that allows friends and family to quickly split purchases and transfer money to each other; however, it still has limited features for more complex use cases such as splitting bill costs when everyone orders items of different prices.
The goal of this project was to create a simple user experience for users split the bill efficiently between their friends.

Problem Context
Splitting the bill is a pain.
More often times than not, my friends end up facing the same problem when going out to eat as a group. Traditional bill-splitting methods, such as manual calculations, often lead to confusion, disputes, and wasted time.
The lack of a dedicated bill-splitting feature within Venmo creates a need for an improved and user-friendly solution.

Over 70% of respondent stated they used other apps to help calculate individual shares of the bill.
To further understand the problem space, a user survey was created and received over 30 responses. Here are the main frustration insights that were collected:

Venmo users found splitting the bills to be tedious and uncomfortable.
I interviewed 3 Venmo users (targeting the most active user segment of 18-29 year olds) to gather more in-depth answers of the pain points that may arise when splitting bills. Here are some of the things that were brought up:
